How to Cancel a Dating App Subscription and Get a Refund (eharmony, Match, Zoosk, More)

Where the cancel button lives for eharmony, Zoosk, Christian Mingle, SilverSingles, EliteSingles, Match and OurTime, what each service's published terms refund, and why Apple or Google billing changes the answer.

How do I cancel my dating app subscription and get a refund?

Cancel through whoever bills you: the Apple or Google subscription screen if you paid inside the app, or the site's account settings if you paid on the web, at least a day before the renewal date. You keep access until the end of the paid term and, in most cases, get no refund for the unused part. The published exceptions are narrow: eharmony, Zoosk, Christian Mingle, SilverSingles and EliteSingles describe a three-business-day cancellation right in their terms, and Match.com is under a 2025 FTC order to simplify cancellation.

Below is the exact cancellation path and refund wording each service publishes, what Apple and Google do when the subscription runs through them, and where the terms could not be read at all. This page is built from each service's published terms, Apple's and Google's subscription help pages and the Federal Trade Commission's press release on the Match Group order (checked October 2026) rather than first-hand use.

First, work out who is billing you

The cancellation button lives with the company that takes your money, and that is not always the dating site. Apple's support page covers "a subscription that you purchased with an app from the App Store", and if no Apple receipt exists, "You might've bought the subscription from another company. To find out which company bills you, check your bank or credit card statement." The services agree: eharmony's terms state that "eharmony cannot directly process refunds for purchases made through Apple via the iOS application", and the Black Cap Holdings terms behind Zoosk and Christian Mingle say App Store refunds and cancellations "will need to go through them directly."

Three billing routes, three cancel buttons:

  • Paid on the website (card details entered on the site): cancel in the site's account or subscription settings; the service's own refund terms apply.
  • Paid through the iPhone or iPad app: cancel in iOS Settings under your name and Subscriptions; Apple's refund process applies.
  • Paid through the Android app: cancel on Google Play's Subscriptions page; Google Play's refund policy applies.

Deleting the app does nothing to the charge. Google's help page is blunt: "When you uninstall an app, your subscription won't cancel." Black Cap's terms repeat it for Zoosk and Christian Mingle: "deleting the app or your profile will not cancel your subscription."

eharmony: a settings path, no refund for unused days, and a three-day window in twelve states

eharmony's terms, checked October 2026, give the web cancellation route step by step: you cancel "by: accessing Data & Settings > “Manage profile” > Amend Subscription, clicking on the cancellation link, and providing the information requested." You can also cancel "by emailing subscriptions@eharmony.com or by live chat with Customer Care." The default outcome is the industry norm. Section 12.1 is titled "Cancellation At Any Time With No Refund", and it spells out that "your subscription will terminate at the end of the subscription term for which you have paid, and you will not receive any refund for any unused days of such subscription term."

Two eharmony-specific clauses catch people out. Installment plans do not stop when you cancel: if you chose three-part pay, "cancellation will not affect your obligation to pay the total contractual amount due on your subscription", and the remaining installments keep charging. And renewal is automatic unless you act in time, because eharmony "AUTOMATICALLY RENEWS ALL PAID SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR THE SERVICES ON THE DATE SUCH SUBSCRIPTIONS EXPIRE UNLESS YOU CANCEL AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE THE END OF YOUR CURRENT TERM."

The refund exception is eharmony's 3-Day Cancellation clause. For buyers residing in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and Wisconsin, the terms say you "MAY CANCEL THE AGREEMENT, WITHOUT ANY PENALTY OR OBLIGATION, AT ANY TIME PRIOR TO MIDNIGHT OF THE THIRD BUSINESS DAY FOLLOWING THE DATE OF THIS AGREEMENT, EXCLUDING SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS." Refunds under that clause "will be made within 10 days after eharmony's receipt of your written cancellation notice", so send the notice in writing, by email, and keep a copy. New York subscribers get one more option: the terms say "You may pause your Premium Membership for up to one (1) year by providing written notice", a clause eharmony states "only applies to subscribers residing in New York." There is also a death-or-disability clause under which prepaid amounts for services not received "will be promptly refunded to you or your representative." If you are still choosing a plan length, the cheapest way to avoid all of this is to read the term and the renewal date before you pay: Check the price at eharmony.com, and see our breakdown of how much eharmony costs and how its auto-renewal works.

Zoosk and Christian Mingle: the Black Cap Holdings terms

Both sites now hand you the same document. The footers of zoosk.com and christianmingle.com link to the Terms of Use of Black Cap Holdings, LLC, which says it governs "Jdate at jdate.com; JSwipe at jswipeapp.com; Christian Mingle at christianmingle.com; Zoosk at zoosk.com, and LDS Singles at ldssingles.com". The cancellation section is short and readable. For web purchases, "You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account dashboard", and "Your cancellation will be effective at the end of your current billing cycle, and you will not be charged for subsequent months." On refunds: "You will retain access to the platform through the end of your paid subscription period. We do not provide refunds or credits for partial months."

Renewal works in one of two ways under these terms: a subscription "will either (i) automatically renew each month unless you cancel prior to your next Billing Date; or (ii) continue for the duration you selected." Price changes need notice, with Black Cap reserving the right "to modify our subscription fees upon thirty (30) days' prior written notice to you."

The refund windows are state-specific. California members "have the right to cancel your subscription and/or upgrade(s) (including upgrades to a subscription and upgrades without a subscription), without any penalty or obligation, at any time until midnight of the third business day after the day on which you purchased a subscription and/or upgrade(s)", and Colorado members may cancel "at any time prior to midnight of the third business day following the date of your subscription, excluding Sundays and holidays." Both notices ask for "a signed and dated notice" and say to "include your username and the email address used to register for the Services with such notice." Our Zoosk review covers how coins and upgrades add to the bill. Check the price at zoosk.com before you commit to a longer term.

SilverSingles and EliteSingles: a "Trial Period" of three business days

SilverSingles and EliteSingles publish near-identical service agreements, and both are the most generous of this group about early refunds. Each says: "you may cancel a subscription within three (3) business days of subscribing to our Service to receive a refund by notifying us through the contact information provided below." The agreement names that window your "Trial Period". After it closes, "Subscription fees are non-refundable, except for cancellations during the Trial Period."

To stop renewal, the SilverSingles agreement says to "log in to the, SilverSingles Site navigate to “Settings” and follow the provided instructions, or contact us", and the EliteSingles agreement carries the same instruction with its own name. Renewal periods mirror the plan you bought: the company reserves the right "to renew your Membership for the subscription term you initially selected at the time of subscription (ie: monthly, every 3 months, or every 6 months, or any other renewal period explicitly offered at the time of subscription)." The EliteSingles agreement adds that you "may cancel your subscription at any time during the subscription term" by contacting its support address. If a three-day trial window suits how you shop, these two are the easiest to try: Check the price at silversingles.com or Check the price at elitesingles.com.

Match.com and OurTime: an FTC order, and terms we could not read

Match.com's cancellation flow is the one with a regulator's fingerprints on it. In August 2025 the Federal Trade Commission announced that Match Group had "agreed to pay $14 million, permanently stop misrepresenting guarantees and locking consumers out of paid-for accounts, and simplify Match.com's cancellation processes to resolve the Federal Trade Commission's charges." The FTC's original complaint, from September 2019, alleged that Match "made it difficult for users to cancel their subscriptions" and "unfairly suspended the accounts of users who unsuccessfully filed billing disputes, keeping their money without providing the paid-for services." The practical lesson: cancel through the account rather than through a chargeback, the route the FTC said backfired on consumers.

We could not read Match's own refund-policy article or OurTime's terms and help pages; both sit behind an access wall, so nothing from them is quoted here. What is public is OurTime's Google Play listing, which names the developer as "Match Group Americas, LLC" and lists the free tier ("Build your profile with photos, a description and your interests") against the paid one ("Premium with a subscription: ● See who liked you"). For either service, apply the billing-route rule above: cancel on the website if you paid there, and through Apple or Google if you paid in the app. Our Match pricing guide covers the plan tiers.

If you paid through Apple or Google

Apple's instructions for an iPhone are four taps: "In Settings, tap your name. Tap Subscriptions. Tap the subscription. Tap Cancel Subscription." A useful tell on that screen: "If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already canceled." Trials have their own deadline, because Apple says to "cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends." eharmony's terms describe the same route for its iOS subscribers, "access the Settings option on your iPhone, click on iTunes & App Stores, select your Apple ID, View Apple ID and Subscriptions", and point refund requests for those purchases to Apple.

On Android, Google's help page says: "On your computer, go to subscriptions in Google Play. For the subscription you want to cancel, click Manage. Click Cancel subscription." After cancelling, "you'll still be able to use your subscription for the time you've already paid", and "Your past subscriptions can't be refunded, with some exceptions as specified in this article or in Google Play's refund policies." Two Google-specific details matter here: "Some apps let you pause your subscription", with the pause starting "at the end of your current billing period", and if you bought on a payment plan, "Once your payment method is charged for a payment plan, you can't cancel any remaining payments for that payment plan."

How to actually get money back

Line up the three facts that decide a refund: when you bought, where you live, and how you paid.

  1. Inside three business days? Send a written cancellation now. eharmony publishes the window for twelve states, SilverSingles and EliteSingles for all subscribers, Black Cap for California and Colorado members. Email counts as written notice; a phone call does not.
  2. Outside the window and paid on the web? No refund for unused time under any of these terms. Cancel to stop the renewal, use the service to the end of the term, and screenshot the confirmation.
  3. Paid through Apple or Google? Ask the store, not the dating site; eharmony and Black Cap both say they cannot handle those refunds.
  4. Still being charged? Re-check the billing route on your card statement, as Apple advises, and look for a separate "upgrade" renewing on its own.

FAQ

Will cancelling my dating subscription refund the months I have not used?

Usually not. eharmony's terms say you "will not receive any refund for any unused days", the Black Cap terms for Zoosk and Christian Mingle say "We do not provide refunds or credits for partial months", and SilverSingles and EliteSingles say fees are "non-refundable, except for cancellations during the Trial Period." The exceptions are the three-business-day windows described above and, on eharmony, the death-or-disability clause.

Does deleting the app or my profile cancel the subscription?

No. Google's help page states that uninstalling an app does not cancel the subscription, and the Black Cap terms say the same about deleting the app or your profile. Cancel in the billing account first, then delete.

Can I pause instead of cancelling?

Sometimes. Google Play notes that "Some apps let you pause your subscription", effective at the end of the billing period, and eharmony's terms offer a pause of up to one year by written notice for New York subscribers only. No other published terms here describe a pause; hiding your profile while the term runs out is the closest equivalent.

How old do you have to be to hold one of these subscriptions?

Eighteen. eharmony's terms say "You must be at least 18 years old to register for the Services", and the Black Cap terms for Zoosk and Christian Mingle say the platform "is only offered and available to users who are 18 years of age or older."
